Devdar, also known as Devdaru, Devdhar, or Dev Daru, is a traditional Ayurvedic ingredient obtained from the Himalayan cedar tree, botanically identified as Cedrus deodara. Devdar ki lakdi has traditionally been valued in Ayurveda for its warming and aromatic properties and its use in herbal preparations supporting joint comfort, digestion, and respiratory wellness.

Traditional Benefits of Devdar

Joint and Muscle Comfort: Traditionally used in Ayurvedic preparations to support mobility and relieve everyday muscular discomfort.

Respiratory Wellness: Devdar has a history of traditional use in herbal preparations for cough and respiratory comfort.

Digestive Support: Traditionally valued for supporting appetite and digestive function.

Skin Care: Devdar is used in selected traditional external preparations for skin cleansing.

Aromatic Wellness: Its distinctive woody fragrance makes it useful in traditional aromatic preparations and fumigation practices.

Directions for use

Boil Devdaru pieces in water to make a warm herbal decoction, or soak them overnight and consume the strained water in the morning. Taken daily, it helps support respiratory comfort and promotes healthy digestion.

Botanical Information

Botanical Name: Cedrus deodara (Roxb.) G. Don

Family: Pinaceae

Common Names: Devdar, Devdaru, Deodar, Devdhar

Part Used: Wood

The Devadaru tree, also searched as the Devdhar tree, Devdar ka ped, Devdar ka tree, or Devdar ke ped, is a Himalayan conifer. Deodar wood in English is commonly called Deodar Cedar or Himalayan Cedar. The terms Deodar in English and Devadaru plant are also used when researching this tree.

Devdaru benefits are traditionally associated with its use in herbal oils and external preparations. Deodar oil is a separate product made from the tree's aromatic material and should not be confused with raw Devdar wood. Search terms such as Debdaru plant, Deodar tree flower, and Deodar fruit relate to botanical identification; the tree produces cones rather than typical fleshy fruits.
